The Tariffs on China

At a glance

In 2018 the United States put tariffs on Chinese goods, and China answered with tariffs on American farms.

If money is tight

If money is tight, a tariff is a tax you meet at the register, not on a form.

If you are in the middle

If you are in the middle, a washing machine, a tool, or a repair part can carry a trade war.

If you already have assets

If you have savings, a factory in your portfolio may gain protection and a farm exporter may lose a customer.

Using the trade laws already on the books, Washington taxed a long list of Chinese imports.

Beijing taxed American soybeans and other farm goods.

The household did not see the word tariff on the receipt, and the farmer saw the lost sale directly.
